While driving in the pickup one day I got a phone call, but it wasn’t a good one. My brother cut his hand terribly with a table saw. He was going into surgery and might lose all his fingers. We were told if he does get to keep his fingers, he won’t be able to use them. I called the ladies at church, and started the prayer chain. Then I called Mom.
Before I got off the phone with Mom, I already had a few things to praise God for:
- my sister who had not spoken with Mom for quite some time went to the hospital to be with her during my brother’s surgery;
- the physicians who just wanted to take my brother’s fingers off decided to send him to the hand specialist in Council Bluffs, IA;
- the specialist just happened to be in AND available;
- and the cut would have been fatal if it had been cut any deeper or if my brother would have had to travel any farther than Council Bluffs.
After surgery, my brother not only kept all of his fingers, but he had feeling and good blood flow in his hand and fingers! A few months later, a bone graft seemed necessary, but after more prayers, the bones were growing better than ever!
After this experience, you cannot convince me that God doesn’t see the future. I know without a doubt God’s love is never ending and all encompassing. Our heavenly Father, in his great love and mercy arranged time, locations, and people so they would be where they were needed when my brother needed them. How is this not proof God knows all things, even the future, and can prepare ahead of time to protect us and provide for us?
There are many things I don’t understand, and many questions I can’t answer, but as I watched this event unfold in the life of my family, I knew God loves my brother, no matter what!
When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior… Isaiah 43:2-3
