If you read my previous post, Wrestling Part 1, you’ll understand why I am listing these Bible verses and quotes. All quotes are taken from the Dr. David Jeremiah Study Bible, NIV. If you haven’t read the previous post then know this: Scripture says to test the spirits so when we receive a message we can know if it is from the one true God or not (1 John 4). Therefore, when I heard information causing me to doubt God’s goodness, I asked my Lord for help in understanding the truth. The holy Spirit of God is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). Naturally, he took me to his own word, the Bible, to prove the accuracy of what I heard…or the inaccuracy of it. I hope these verses and quotes help guide you closer to our Lord as you make your own search for truth.
Scriptures on Doubt
Genesis 3:3-4; 13:4
Exodus 3:10-15
Judges 6:13-16; 36-40
1 Kings 19:4-14
Psalm 37:5; 73:1-28
Proverbs 3:5-6
Isaiah 55:8-9
Haggai 1:6-11

Romans 11:33-34
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
2 Corinthians 5:7
Hebrews 11:6
James 1:6-8
My understanding of the main point of these scriptures: Look ONLY to God the Father in heaven for the wisdom you need. You WILL receive it! You will also be blessed for giving him the benefit of the doubt for whatever you do not understand or receive. That is faith!
Does God Cause Sin or Prevent Us From Doing Good?
Exodus 9:12 and 10:1-2
“The sun in the sky is the same source of light and heat for both clay and wax on earth. Whether the clay hardens or the wax melts is a result of what they are made of, not the source of the heat. God DOES give full opportunity for people to turn from their ways and obey him.”
Romans 9:14-23
God is our sovereign King. All of us have sinned, and fall short of his holy standard according to:
- My experience
- Romans 3:10, 23 and 5:12
- Psalm 143:2
- Ecclesiastes 7:20, and
- Isaiah 64:6.
“Therefore, we ALL deserve his wrath. So the fact that many receive mercy and new lives proves God’s goodness.”
Genesis 41:1-6
“God orchestrated this event in order that his perfect will would be accomplished, according to Genesis 50:20. There was something in Joseph that needed purged/instruction. There was a certain point in time Joseph needed to wait for, and a certain place he had to be. Joseph still had to do his part to find favor with the jail warden and the cup bearer. Joseph had to submit to God’s will, be teachable, and be willing to be used by God.”
False Teachers/Prophets
Galatians 5:7-12
“False teachers and prophets:
1. Contradict the truth according to John 14:6,
2. Are contrary to God,
3. Contaminate the church,
4. Will be condemned, and
5. Criticize teachers of the truth.”
My understanding of the main point of these scriptures: Asking questions is a healthy thing to do. Having conversations to explore the deeper truths of God is a healthy thing to do. Satan and his evil spirits, not people, are the ones who sow lies or plant doubt into those questions, conversations, or in our minds. After all, that is really where the battlefield is located. Again, my thoughts here are inspired by what the Lord has taught me through my alone time with him.
Working Out Salvation vs. Earning It
Philippians 2:12
Ephesians 2:8-9
“If we receive a shirt as a gift, we wear it; if we receive a book, we read it. The gift is free, and has been given to us. However, it’s up to us to use that gift.”
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
James 1:6-8 NIV
