Cartoon Drawings

They were mine, but that’s how I knew this was a dream from my Lord. I cannot sketch or paint well. I’ve never taken classes, so my artistic masterpieces consist of stick figures and arrows on Pictionary paper. Let me tell you my dream. Then the significance of these cartoon drawings will be clear.

One night in my sleep I saw my sister-in-law, my husband, and me standing in a rodeo arena talking. The rodeo must have just ended because there were a few people milling around, but most had already left. I was holding an infant in my arms who I understood to be my niece, the daughter of my sister-in-law. She started fussing. We all decided the baby was tired so I took her to a motel on the rodeo grounds. I went into one of the rooms and laid her on the bed. Instantly she was asleep. I got a pen and notebook, and lay down beside my niece on the bed. I began drawing cartoon characters which, if I may say so, were excellent drawings in the dream.

As soon as I finished a character, my niece began giggling, even though she was still asleep! I thought it must have been a fluke, so I drew another character. When I finished she giggled again. I kept drawing characters and my niece, sleeping soundly, kept giggling as each one was finished!

After asking my God in prayer about the dream, I understood this to be his message: the younger generation appears to be sleeping. Spiritually speaking, they do not look like they are paying attention. However, I (God) am taking what my remnant is doing and putting it into the younger generation. Your prayers and good works are being translated into their hearts and minds. Your knowledge, wisdom, and faith are being passed onto them, and they are receiving it with joy.

Often times I am tempted to think I am not doing anything significant for God or his kingdom. I am “just a mom” or “just a wife” or my prayers and Bible studies aren’t really affecting anyone but me. I am so thankful my Lord encourages me by showing how beneficial my dedication to him is. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the creator of the universe, the stars, the planets and everything in them. He doesn’t owe me anything. So I am thrilled when God lets me see what he’s doing with my humble obedience! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends…keep drawing. They are receiving it!

I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

Genesis 17:7 NIV
