Moments

As I was scouting fields one day God showed me a magnificent gem within his creation. After school let out, I took my kids back to the field I was at. When we pulled up along the tree line, hundreds of Monarch butterflies were resting on tree branches. Many more were on the other side of the trail, feeding on the purple flowers of clover. The pasture looked like it had been covered in orange frost! My children’s faces were glowing with awe and wonder as we got out of the pickup. As we walked along the dirt trail, the Monarchs stirred and took flight. We were surrounded by a silent tornado of delicate orange and black wings.

Can I chase them?

My son asked me the question excitedly. With a nod and a smile, I watched my little boy run through the field of clover chasing after these dancing insects. My sweet daughter quietly crept up to flower after flower to see how close she could get. The sun was bright. The sky was a calm blue, and the warm breeze gave something for the many dragonflies to play in, who were watching the show. For a moment, all was right in the world.

Sometimes our heavenly Father answers before we utter our prayers. Sometimes his answers aren’t concrete solutions or material provisions. Sometimes, our Lord’s answers are moments. There are times when I have to tell my children to calm down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the moment. I too often forget to take my own advice. Yet, when I do I can actually enjoy my life. I can admit I have more blessings than curses, and I can easily place my focus back where it belongs…on my loving and wise King. On this day, I was thankful for God’s provision of a moment in time! What moment are you thankful for, or is it still coming?

You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.

Psalm 30:11-12
